People often ask me why I wanted to become a cosmetic dentist. Well, it had a great deal to do with the fact that I was embarrassed by my own teeth for more than half of my life. Not long ago my wife and I were thumbing through our old photographs from way back during our high-school days (yes, I married my high-school sweetheart) We noticed that there weren’t any pictures of me smiling and showing my teeth.
Finally, after dental school I was able to have my own smile fixed with porcelain veneers. For me, that was truly a life changing event. I felt great about my new smile and was hooked on cosmetic dentistry. I wanted to help everyone experience the feeling of confidence and freedom that comes from being able to smile and laugh without hesitation or embarrassment.
I feel very fortunate to be in the field of cosmetic dentistry during the recent period of huge progress. Today, porcelain veneers are so natural-looking and "lifelike" that even I have a tough time distinguishing them from the real thing. - For 10 years Dr. Schiro has been the Official Dentist of the Miss Texas-USA Pageant.
Dr. John Schiro has been married to his wife Judy for 24 years. John and Judy have three children: Carl, Ashley, and Sydney. Dr. Schiro enjoys spending his off time attending his children’s athletic competitions and other events. The Schiro family also enjoys traveling together and snow skiing. Dr. Schiro is also devoted to physical fitness with his regular routine of aerobic and weight training.
